The Youth Academy Mycelia (YAM) is an innovative program to equip young individuals with the knowledge, skills, and empathy needed to become changemakers in their communities.
Our Social Entrepreneurship Program is designed to introduce secondary school students to social entrepreneurship and innovation skills, mindset, and compassion to tackle real-world challenges.
How does it work?
The program is structured around three pillars:
Head: Online modules and in-person sessions introduce students to social innovation concepts, like root cause analysis, business canvas, and design thinking.
Hand: Students collaborate on fundraising projects for the Credo Foundation, applying their social entrepreneurial knowledge to support a literacy program.
Heart: Personal growth is fostered through interactions with children with literacy challenges, teamwork with peers in fundraising events, and team coaching to address challenges.
What do students gain?
The Social Entrepreneurship Program is a semester-long journey where students develop critical thinking, leadership, and empathy while contributing to meaningful social causes. Through a blend of online learning, in-person sessions, hands-on projects, and community engagement, participants gain practical experience in creating innovative solutions and lifelong skills for personal growth.
YAM students engaged in the Social Enterprise classroom through dynamic, hands-on activities.
YAM students visited one of Credo Foundation's schools to identify root causes in literacy issues.
YAM students visiting the neighborhood and homes of Credo Foundation's literacy program alumni to gain real-world perspective on literacy issues.
Why join the program?
Skills Development: Students enhance their problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork abilities. They also gain skills to manage personal and interpersonal challenges.
University Readiness: The program prepares students for university applications by highlighting leadership and social contributions.
Community Impact: Participants directly contribute to the development of AI for Credo to scale their remedial literacy program for children from underserved communities.
A message for parents
We invite parents to witness your children's growth throughout key milestones in their projects. These meetings summarize what we do with our students and showcase how they have applied their learning to create meaningful change in their communities.
At team mycelia, we are committed to fostering a culture where young minds can thrive and make a difference. This program is more than just an educational journey—it's a step toward building a better future together.
At Youth Academy Mycelia, we love seeing how technology and creativity come together to spark meaningful impact. Clayton, one of our YAM students, whose “Art Through Storytelling” session with struggling readers left a lasting impression.
Using Myco, our AI, as a brainstorming partner, Clayton started with an idea to invite children to draw their “safe space,” and inspired further by his sister’s journaling practice, he transformed this into something bigger: a memory book project, where children reflected on their lives through artwork and shared stories they can keep for years to come.
What made this experience truly heartwarming for Clayton was not just seeing the creativity of the children, but realizing their simple dreams—like wishing for an air conditioner or celebrating the joy of a small toy. These moments reminded him of an important truth: gratitude for what we often take for granted, that one small thing for us can mean the world to someone else, and empathy for those whose lives are very different from ours.
